London: J. Johnson, 1799. 2nd Edition, published 1799, London, Printed for J. Johnson, St. Paul's Churchyard. First Edition was published and 1785. Large leather bound book, 428 pages, 13 fold-out engraved plates at rear, illustrating various instruments, machines, calculations. Plate IX, X and XI are present but loose. Book has been handsomely rebound using original boards and new leather spine, gilt titles on spine. The original boards show a lot of wear. Pages are in good, clean condition, some light foxing on first few pages, occasional notes and markings, a faint former owner's name in pencil on title page. The plates are in various conditions, one page torn and repaired, three loose, several with rough, worn outer page edges. Overall the book is in very good condition, very readable and still handsome. Very cool early science tome with lots of great reading. Very exciting times for science and discovery. Includes sections on: Laws of Motion, Laws of Gravitations, Motion of Fluids, Hydrostatics, Pneumatics, Equinoxes, Tides, Fixed Stars, Magnetism, Electricity, Chemistry, Light, and much more! Very rare. Great addition to any collection.
