John Steinbeck
In Dubious Battle [in 1st State jacket]
William Heinemann Ltd., London, 1936. 1st UK edition,1st printing [Goldstone and Payne A5c] in publisher's original blue cloth with titles and wavy line to spine in gilt - still fresh, clean and bright with very light wear to spine ends. The binding is sound, tight and square. Internally clean and fresh with no inscriptions and very occasionally just the slightest hint of spotting and with very minor fading at edges to blue eps. The dramatically illustrated, unclipped, 1st state dustjacket [without the price 3/6 overstamped onto spine as with the later state - the book was originally marketed at 7/6 net as priced here] has benefitted from some very limited but high quality professional restoration carried out by a leading paper conservator. Very scarce in this 1st state jacket. A lovely copy of this first story in the Dust Bowl trilogy which was followed by 'Of Mice and Men' and 'The Grapes of Wrath.' Size: 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover; In Dust Jacket]
