HIS MOST ROYAL HIGHNESS MOMUS COMMANDS YOUR PRESENCE AT HIS FAVORITE SEAPORT GALVESTON, TEX. FEB. 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th 1891. By the King Himself Israfel Prime Minister
[Galveston, TX, 1891. Die-cut folding invitation, printed on both sides, for Galveston's 1891 Mardi Gras and Deep Water Jubilee, 23 cm., with 12 pennant shaped points radiating out from the central skull (?) shaped color illustrated card. One side prints the invitation, with a color illustration of Galveston harbor, with sailing and steam ships in the foreground, and the pennants printed with the names of several states: New Mexico, Arizona, Utah, Oaklahoma [sic], Texas, Colorado, Nebraska, Kansas, Iowa, Missouri, Arkansas, and Louisiana. Verso shows two illustrations: a domestic scene, with a family seated at a table out in their garden, captioned "Fruits and Flowers the Year Round;" and a view of a beach, palm tree, and the water under a colorful sky. The pennants are printed with the months of the year. Some wear along the fold, a few short closed tears near the edges of the pennants, else a very nice copy. OCLC lists one copy: SMU. The Knights of Momus was the oldest Mardi Gras Krewe in Galveston, having been founded in 1871.
