Very light spotting to the fore edge. Rex Whistler-designed bookplate for The Book Society, signed by Daphne du Maurier, on front pastedown. Neat ink ownership to the top of the flyleaf. Contents clean and fresh. Near fine. A best seller on publication, and never out of print in the eighty years since, Alfred Hitchcock's film version of 1940, with Laurence Olivier and Joan Fontaine, won the Academy Award for Best Picture and Netflix releases a version in October 2020 with Kristin Scott Thomas as Mrs. Danvers. Scott Thomas played the lover of The English Patient in the film adaptation of Michael Ondaatje's novel which refers to the intended use of an edition of Rebecca by Rommel and Almasy (the titular patient) as the key to a book code.
