DE CERVANTES, Miguel (1567-1616) [DORE, Gustave, illustrator], [JARVIS, Charles, translator], [CLARK, J.W., editor], [SHORE, T. Teignmouth, introduction]
The History of Don Quixote
London: Cassell, Petter and Galpin, no date [1867]. [Classic Literature] DORE ILLUSTRATED EDITION. Quarto (32 x 26cm), pp. xxviii, 737. With 118 full-page engraved illustrations by Gustave Dore, as well as numerous in-text illustrations. Handsomely bound in half brown oasis morocco, spine gilt-lettered in six compartments with raised bands, green morocco title label, all edges speckled red, marbled sides. A little marking within; exterior fine. Overall a very good copy in an attractive recent leather binding. Dore's illustrated Quixote first appeared in 30 parts between 1864 and 1867, being re-published in a single volume a number of times over the following decades (later imprints state 'Cassell' only). His drawings bring a late Victorian flavour to the seventeenth century Spanish classic.
