Volume two in two parts, comprising all the terracottas and pottery in the Cesnola collection. xxxi, 65 leaves of plates + detailed descriptions; 84 leaves of plates + detailed descriptions. 43 cm. Original brown half morocco over pebbled cloth, spines with five raised bands and gold lettering, marbled endpapers. Title pages in red and black. Illustrations in color and b&w. Preface by Alexander Stuart Murray, keeper of Greek and Roman antiquities of the British Museum. Di Cesnola, a Civil War Medal of Honor recipient, was the U. S. consul in Cyprus. The collection of antiquities he excavated during his years there was purchased by the Metropolitan Museum of Art of New York. He subsequently became the first director of the Met until his passing in 1904. Some wear to the edges and corner tips, a few spots and light discoloration to cloth. Internally extremely clean but for a few small spots to the fore edge of part one and some light scattered foxing to the first few leaves of part two. A bright, very good+ set. Uncommon. ; Folio.
