Original blue quarter vellum, blue cloth sides, spine lettered and decorated in gilt with vermiculated rules extending onto sides, top edge rough gilt, others untrimmed. Title page printed in red and black, wood-engraved half-title and 9 similar headpieces by V. le Campion, 9 engraved maps to rear by T. Poulton of which 7 double-page. Gift inscription to second blank verso from bookseller and ABA president Alan G. Thomas (1911-1992) to his friend David Tarplett, dated 1977; loosely inserted are two letters from Thomas gifting this copy, and a postcard. A little staining and darkening to cloth, spine a little spotted and faded, though not as extensively as usually encountered, contents fresh and clean. A very good copy indeed. First Nonesuch Press edition, limited to 675 copies of which this is number 546, a superb example of book design and presswork. Loosely inserted are the Nonesuch Press prospectus for this edition, and the Autumn 1935 issue of the Nonesuch News, publicising their latest titles.
