Commander George Evelyn Paget How
English and Scottish Silver Spoons (Mediaeval to Late Stuart) And Pre-Elizabethan Hall-Marks on English Plate
London: The Curwen Press, 1957. Full leather. Near Fine. A gorgeous example of George How's landmark 3-volume examination of English and Scottish silver spoons and pre-Elizabethan hall-marks on English plate. All 3 folio volumes beautifully bound in a custom, full red morocco by Sangorski and Sutcliffe of London. (The foot of each front pastedown also bears the Sangorski & Sutcliffe stamp). 5 raised bands to each volume, fine gilt-bordering and titling within the compartments. Internally, clean as could be as well, with no writing or markings of any kind. The set is easily in Near Fine condition and, save for just a touch of light offsetting along one rear panel top-edge, would legitimatley be approaching Fine. Dozens and dozens of gravure plates complement How's deeply-informative text. A true collector's copy, certainly worthy of an institutional holding. [Attributes: First Edition]
