May, Karl (1842-1912) - Fine postcard signed "Greetings from America" - A popular German writer, noted mainly for adventure novels set in the American Old West. Best known for the characters of Winnetou and Old Shatterhand. Postcard signed "Gruß aus Amerika! Karl May". And additional in his hand at the top "Austria". Postcard, 5.5 x 3.5 inch, postmarked MADISON SQ(uare), STA(tion), N.Y., Spetember 17, 1908. Addressed in Clara May's hand at the top "Germany" and to "Herrn Adolf Veith in Baden bei Wien". Probably Karl May crossed out the word Germany and replaces it with "Austria". Addressed changed in a different hand. Photo of the card shows "Chinatown" - Opium Smokers, Cosmopolitan New York. Card by Raphael Tuck & Sons "OILETTE" Art publishers to their Majesties the King and Queen and printed "For postage in the United Kingdom only", but used by May in the United States. Handling and corner wear, else fine condition. A fine card of May's famous trip. COMES WITH A CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY BY ANDREAS WIEMER HISTORICAL AUTOGRAPHS.
