Lutetiae ( Paris ): Mamertum Patissonium Typographum Regium, in Officiana Roberti Stephani, 1580. full tan leather, rubbed with chips from spine, both hinges weak, though repaired they are very fragile, this is a later, probably Georgian binding. title page missing 26 (28 with the missing title page ) + 458 + 21pp. text block is VG, TEXT IN LATIN, the declamationes had been previously published in 1541 by Simon de Colin & subsequent editions, but these were a collection of 136, the discovery of a manuscript containing an additional 9 allowed Pierre Pithou to publish this collection of 145 for the first time. this volume also contains a new recension of the dialogues of Tacitus based on Pithou's new manuscript sources & for the first time the fragments of the declamationes of Calpurnius Flaccus. also included in the text is a letter to his nephew Pierre Nevelette about the declamationes. this is the edito princeps of the more complete edition of Quintilian with additional commentary by the famous french jurist & classical scholar who was a great inluence on the french Legal system under henry IV of France.-Ex Bibliotheca P.
