Illustrated with 180 fine hand-coloured engraved plates of natural history subjects by the author. §A reissue of the 1823-27 edition (the latter had been issued in parts) with a new title-page. Discreet nineteenth-century ink ownership stamp of C.H. Palairet (presumably the army officer Charles Harvey Palairet of Westhill, Ledbury, Herefordshire) to fly-leaf of each volume. Contemporary gilt-decorated polished calf, rubricated edges, lately rebacked to the highest professional standard in similar style, raised bands, double contrasting lettering-pieces, spines decorated with gilt floral devices in compartments. Original marbled endpapers preserved. A touch of very occasional slight browning, the odd single spot of foxing, but a beautiful and clean copy, the plates fresh and bright.
