Manhattan District" Participation Certificate and Restricted Publication Entitled "Atomic Energy and Radiological Defense.".
War Department, Washington D. C, 1945. The certificate (10 x 8 inches) reads - "This is to certify that Edward R. Driese, E. I. du Pont de Mours & Co., Inc., has participated in work essential to the production of the Atomic Bomb, thereby contributing to the successful conclusion of World War II. This certificate is awarded in appreciation of effective service." It is auto-signed by Secretary of War Henry L. Stimson and dated August 6, 1945 (the day the Enola Gay dropped the Bomb on Hiroshima). Some foxing to blank left margin. else a clean and tidy item. Surely there must have been a number of these certificates given out to participants but we could only find records for two.History has not been kind to the memory of Edward R. Driese and, other than census records, we have been unable to to state exactly what he did for the Manhattan Project.
