A collection of 30 black and white photographs affixed to stiff black paper with captions. Most photos measure 5" x 7" and 4.5" x 2.5". An assemblage of photographs taken in 1939 and 1940 on a trip to Haiti, including stops in Miami, Puerto Rico, and Cuba, as well as shots from abroad ship. One caption reads, "a new world awaits the first-time visitor to Haiti. Here, less than four days from New York, is a life, a culture, and a civilization so remote from any we normally know that only in darkest Africa can we find its prototype." The young adventurer and photographer remains nameless but poses with natives, even taking one picture of a naked child in exchange for a nickel, as well as "the amazon concert soloist," Elsa Bottroff in Cape Haiten. Also included are photos of Columbus Cathedral, where Christopher Columbus' remains were formerly held, the Maine Monument, and the Old Spanish Missiou in Cuba. [Attributes: Hard Cover]
