Theater in Oxford. and in London at the Star near the West-end of St Pauls Church-yard., 1677 Folio, 1st ed, VG, 1 map, 16 pls. In early 18c full tree calf, blind edge tooling, corners and edges bumped and worn. Spine, expertly relaid, raised bands, gilt tooling, titles in gilt to red morocco labels. Internally, Imprimatur leaf, [11], 358 pp, [1] errata, [1], [10] index, 1 map (folding), 16 pls (copper engraved), text block edges marbled blue, armorial bookplate to fpd (Gurdon), new (old) fep, title page with Intaglio device depicting a seated Minerva in front of an Oxford scene, intaglio initial and headpiece to the dedication page, invisible map repair at gutter, small contemporary no to fpd & fep, some light edge browning, has the Subscribers eight shillings at base of tp. A Very Good copy of an important title, a 2nd edition appeared in 1705. Plot planned a survey of the English Counties, but only completed Oxfordshire and Staffordshire. (ESTC R7620. Madan 3130.
