Grafton, Sue
"A" IS FOR ALIBI
New York: Holt, Rinehart and Winston, 1982. First edition. Fine in fine jacket.. Original grey paper boards, metallic red-lettered spine. In original unclipped ($12.95) color pictorial dust jacket. [10], 274, [2] pages. Signed by Grafton in black felt pen on title page. Signed first printing, a gorgeous copy, introducing Grafton's beloved Kinsey Millhone, a hard-up detective in Southern California. The title for the first book in Grafton's famous Alphabet Series was inspired by reading THE GASHLYCRUMB TINIES, a detail that captures the tone of black levity that has partly made the series so popular. Kinsey Millhone bears many characteristics of a classic noir detective, but with a feminist update: she would become a model for many heroines to come in the following decades, not only in mystery but in urban fantasy and beyond. Really a great copy, desirable signed.
