Photographs]: 1980s Punk Scene
1980. A collection of 38 mostly black and white, with a few color, loose photographs measuring between 3.5" x 5" to 8" x 10" with captions. Slightly curled edges else near fine or better. A cache of early photographs from the 1980s punk scene including candids, publicity photos, and live photos. The photos include bands such as Flipper, Bad Religion, Social Distortion, The Meatmen, L7, Husker Du, Black Flag, T.S.O.L., The Undead, Flipper, Die Kreuzen, and 45 Grave, among others. The live shows are from dive bar shows to outdoor festivals showing on stage antics like Jack Grisham, singer of T.S.O.L., holding a microphone to his crotch, as well as Husker Du playing at Sam's bar with bassist Greg Norton sporting the band's own t-shirt, and an early L7 show. There is also a photo of the Dead Kennedys playing a show in Finland in 1981 which includes a random hand in the crowd giving the finger. Some of these appear to have been used for reviews and articles about the bands with notes on the verso like "please return after use," a photo of a young G.O.H. reads "notice our nice tans." The publicity photos from labels such as SST, Touch and Go, and Reflex were taken by some of the biggest names in the scene including Glen E. Friedman, Joe Cultice, Bobby Castro, and Michael Jang, and depict staged full band shots of the Meat Puppets, Black Flag, and Flipper, among others. An extensive assortment of unique images depicting the 1980s punk scene. [Attributes: Hard Cover]
