WINSLOW Wallpaper Border Pattern Book Unique Publication Pre Second World War Showing Taste and Fashion for the 1930s
Winslow, 1935. Unique Publication from pre War (WWII) Britain. Fifty-one pages of hand drawn and coloured wall paper borders, most with multiple examples per page, two torn out. Large volume in very good condition, minor damage to the bottom edge of the front board. Unique record of home décor, fashion and taste from the 1930s, pre Second World War. States “This Pattern Book is current in 1935”, “Loan Copy No. 487”; the hand colouring of each individual sample and the “current in 1935” would indicate that the patterns were regularly reviewed and changed. No other copies in auction records or on the internet. Approximately 20 ½ inches tall by 15 inches wide. Condition Report Externally Spine – good condition – cloth, darkened, solid. Joints – good condition – sound. Corners – good condition – bumped and worn. Boards – good condition – cloth, bowed, darkened and marked in places, damaged to the base of the front board and a small dent to the base of the rear. Page edges – good condition – clean. See above and photos. Internally Hinges – good condition – sound and strong. Paste downs – good condition – photographs of the premises. End papers – good condition – plain with some pencil annotation. Pages – good condition – tanned, clean and crisp, offsetting from the paint or varnish on pages opposite the samples.
