Does not include map or portrait. xi, [5] publisher's catalog and index, iv, 180; vii, [1], 184, [6], 16pp publisher's catalog. Both volumes include a publisher's catalog for Henry Curll, son of the infamous Edmund Curll, whom Ker met while both were in prison (Ker for debt, Curll for obscene publication). Other than these catalogs publisher information is absent. Both volumes are bound in full leather: Part I is a light brown leather with tooling and spine has been rebacked; Part II is bound in dark brown leather with gilt trim, and all edges are speckled. Overall good. Both volumes have moderate wear and soiling, and minor dampstaining to text blocks; Part II has moderate chipping at head of spine. These are the memoirs of John Ker (born John Crawford, 1673-1726) detailing his political and financial schemes as a government informant against the Jacobites. In these memoirs he justifies his actions as an informant, and discusses the progress of the Ostend Company, an Austrian trading company, and his efforts to make money out of the East India Company. Part II also "contains curious details respecting Louisiana and the French Dominion in America." Ker died in debtor's prison in 1726. It is also mentioned in Sabin that "Although the notorious Curll was afraid to put his name as printer, he has bound a full list of publications at the endÂ…For publishing this work Curll was pilloried."
