Collection of Aviation Books, Ephemera and Photos Belonging to Metallurgical Laboratories, a Manufacturer of Airplane Parts in the Late 1920s
1928. A collection of aviation related photographs, books, and ephemera belonging to Horace C. Knerr, a metallurgical engineer, inventor, and president of Metallurgical Laboratories, Inc (Metlab), a Philadelphia, Pennsylvania based manufacturer of steel aircraft parts. The bulk of the material dates from 1928-1930 and includes photographs and ephemera documenting the production of aircraft parts, retained by the company for promotional use, as well as a collection of company file copies of booklets and ephemera relating to the national aviation scene, including aircraft shows and other events in which the company participated. In all, the collection contains: 41 photographs, including images of aircraft production, airplane parts, and seven photographs depicting the Spirit of St. Louis while under construction; ten booklets or books, including aircraft show programs and directories, a promotional catalog for the Bellanca Pacemaker airplace, aviation atlases, programs for aeronautical club events, and more; and12 ephemeral items and 12 letters, including aircraft show circulars, an aviation map of Pennsylvania, a broadside from the opening of a Camden, NJ airport, a diagram of a Curtiss-Wright aircraft, a mock-up of a promotional booklet for Metlab, and more. Overall in good to very good condition, with varying amounts of soiling, toning, damp stain, and foxing to contents. Please contact us for a complete catalog.
