The Progress of the Dairy; Descriptive of the Method of Making Butter & Cheese; for the Information of Youth
New York, Samuel Wood, 1823. 16mo. (28)pp. Illustrated with seven full-page woodcuts by Alexander Anderson with skillful contemporary hand-coloring. This text, which first saw publication in 1819, offers an introduction to the inner workings of the dairy farm, giving its youthful reader a breakdown of the processes for making butter and cheese. It closes with a reminder of the central importance of the cow to sustaining life. Scattered foxing throughout, some soiling and spotting to pubisher's printed wrappers, which show some splitting along spine. Overall, a very good copy of an uncommon children's agricultural work. (See Welch 1069; Pomeroy 622.b). [Attributes: Soft Cover]
