[8], 271, [1] pp.First edition of a work on the siege operations during the Franco-Prussian War (1870-1871), by the German colonel Benno von Tiedemann. It is divided into 22 chapters, each dealing with the siege of a different town or city in France, illustrated with lithographed battle plans. The cities Strasbourg, Metz, Paris and Belfort are narrated in greater depth, with comments on the enemy's army, the preparations for the attack and the bombardments. "Never yet has so rich a field for practical and professional training presented itself to the German siege artillery and to the German engineers as in the late war" (p. 5, English edition).With library stamps. With a large water stain in the upper margin and a smaller one in the lower margin, foxed throughout. Binding rubbed along the extremities, some wormholes through spine and sides chafed.
