Contemporary vellum.
[12], 271, [1] pp.First and only edition of a key work on the religious disputes in Alkmaar that may have sparked the controversy between the Remonstrants (following Arminius) and the Contra-Remonstrants (led by Gomarus). The Remonstrant minister Adolphus Venator (or De Jager) came into conflict with his stricter colleague Cornelis Hillenius in 1608. A fierce controversy followed, ending in Hillenius's removal by the magistrate. In 1617, however, the Contra-Remonstrants gained the upper hand and Venator was dismissed in his turn and fled to France.From the library of bibliographer Adrianus Marinus Ledeboer (1797-1887), with his inscription on the front paste-down. Stains in the second half of the book. Writing in ink on the front cover, book block partly detached from the straps. Otherwise in good condition.l Knuttel 184; cf.
