Ruskin, John
Doves Press] UNTO THIS LAST: Four Essays on the First Principles of Political Economy
Doves Press, Hammersmith, 1907. Small quarto. xiv, 122 pp. Limited Edition, one of 300 copies on paper, another 12 copies were printed on vellum. As issued, in limp parchment, titled in gold on the spine and stamp-signed by the Doves Bindery on the lower turn-in of the back cover. Covers are a trifle splayed as is common; now housed in a custom slipcase trimmed in green morocco at the opening and covered in a striking Cockerell marbled paper. This is a very nice copy with minimal mellowing to the parchment. Some small, faint spots of toning at the top and bottom corner of both front and rear free endpaper, fairly minor; otherwise, the contents are clean. Beautifully printed in black in the Doves type with occasional words and lines in Macmillan Greek. While this volume was published in 1907, it was printed much earlier and there is some uncertainty whether this is the first use of the Greek type in a Doves Press book or if it was preceded by its use in the first volume of the English Bible. Regardless, this is an exceptional edition of Ruskin's essays. Tidcombe DP 11. [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]
