SECOND PARIS EDITION (1798-1799), French text, 8vo, 210 x 130 mm, 8¼ x 5¼ inches, 2 hand coloured plates, pages: (2), iii-XII, (2), 1-174, bound in modern quarter calf over new marbled boards, raised bands to spine, gilt lettered red morocco label, new endpapers, fore-edges and lower edges not trimmed. Small chip to top corner of half-title, early ink name on title page, colour No.57 partly painted over on second colour plate (see image), otherwise clean. A very good tight copy. A work on the classification of minerals. Heinrich von Struve (1751-1826) a Swiss chemist and mineralogist who studied at Lausanne and Tubingen universities was a prolific writer on minerals and the geology of his country. John Sinkankas, Gemology an Annotated Bibliography, Volume II, page 1005, No. 6420 lists only one work of his, on the mineralogy and geology of North America published in 1822.
