PUZO, Mario (1920-1999)
The Godfather
New York, NY: G. P. Putnam's Sons, 1969. [Epic crime saga] FIRST EDITION. Octavo (22 x 15cm), pp.446; [2], blank. Publisher's black cloth spine with titles in gilt; cream-coloured cloth boards with puppet string decoration in gilt to the centre of upper, red endpapers, fore-edge untrimmed, black dust-wrapper priced $6.95 with date code 6903 [March 1969] to front flap. Some expected handling for such a thick novel, but better than most; jacket has a few rubs and scratches. Show well. The story spans ten years from 1945 to 1955 and chronicles the early life and career of Mafia patriarch Vito Corleone in 1920's New York. Made into a movie in 1972 with an all-star cast including Marlon Brando, Al Pacino and Robert Duvall, to name but a few. The movie was a tremendous critical and commercial success and rocketed its director, Francis Ford Coppola, to superstardom. Part of The Times' NovelList 60 Greatest Books Poll [2013]. [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover; In Dust Jacket]
Bookseller: Adrian Harrington Ltd, PBFA, ABA, ILAB [Royal Tunbridge Wells, KENT, United Kingdom]
