[Japanese Americana]
[Chicago: The Chicago Shimpo, Inc., 1957. 3-106pp. Quarto. Original pictorial wrappers printed in blue, black, and white. Minor toning and edge wear, couple small abrasions on front wrapper. Text a bit toned but clean. Very good. A business and residential directory for Japanese Americans living in Chicago during the late Eisenhower years. About a third of the directory is devoted to a section of business advertisements, either quarter, half, or full-page, most of which include both English and Japanese text. Following the advertising section is a directory of businesses, arranged alphabetically by business type, from accountants to travel service. A single page headed "Churches & Organizations" lists churches divided into three categories (Buddhist, Christian, and Miscellaneous) along with business organizations (Chicago Japanese American Hotel and Apartment Association), community service organizations (Japanese Mutual Aid Society), Japanese cultural organizations (Kotobuki-hai), and social clubs (Nisei Girls Inter-club Council). The remainder of the directory is an alphabetical residential listing, followed by a brief listing of "Out of Town" (and out-of- state) residents, and a few pages of full-page advertisements. OCLC shows five total copies from any year in a serials record, with only one copy specifically for 1958, held at Columbia. OCLC 25325111.
