The Tiger--Christmas Issue, 1914 (F. Scott Fitzgerald's First Appearance in Print at Princeton)
The Tiger--The Student Magazine of Princeton University, 1914. Original wraps. Near Fine. A wonderful piece of both Princeton University and early 20th century literary history: The historic December 1914 issue of "The Tiger", Princeton's long-running monthly student magazine, in which Freshman F. Scott Fitzgerald makes a brief appearance in print --his very first one at Princeton. On pg. 5 there's a modest, untitled, uncredited piece reporting on a particular student at Holder (one of Princeton's undergraduate dorms). Thanks to the tireless research of Matthew Bruccoli, the great Fitzgerald expert and bibliographer, we know that Fitzgerald made dozens of contributions to the magazine during his time at Princeton -- and that this was his very first one. This copy has held up very nicely to boot. Clean and Near Fine in its stapled, pictorial wrappers, with just a touch of very light creasing along the spine. Internally immaculate as well, with no writing or markings of any kind. Quarto, charming student-targeted local ads running at the front and rear of the magazine. (Bruccoli, c-12, pg. 5).
