Text volume only. 246 + cviii + [12] pp. Text in French. Elephant folio. Bound in full green pebble-grained cloth with extensive gilt ornamentation and lettering to boards and spine. Jean Charles Adolphe Alphand (1817-1891) was a French civil engineer and landscape architect who contributed to the renovation of Paris under Napoléon III by straightening roads and designing public gardens. He also oversaw aspects of the planning for the International Exhibitions in Paris in 1867, 1878, and 1889. Condition: Good. Rebacked with minimal loss to spine; cloth preserved over new boards with repairs to corners and joints. Some scratches and wear to covers. Original endpapers preserved, though with a few open tears. Closed tear (3 cm or 1 ⅛ in) at bottom left corner of first free endpaper. Light foxing and age-toning to interior. Dimensions 19 x 25 x 2.75 inches.
