Condition of the book: like new; no bookplates and visibly unread. Production details of the book: this is a beautiful edition which publishes all of Victor Hugo’s original wash ink illustrations for the first time. The production quality is breathtaking: quarter-bound in Indian goatskin leather; Printed cloth boards displaying Hugo’s Octopus which Gilliatt faces; Printed on Veltique Ivory; 528 pages with 36 colour illustrations (Victor Hugo’s original wash ink illustrations placed where the master himself intended them to be); gilded top edge; sturdy clamshell case to protect the book; Foreword by Andrew Graham-Dixon; Introduction by acclaimed Hugo Biographer Graham Robb. About the letter: In very good condition with little signs of ageing. One sheet with central fold. Hugo’s content and full signature at bottom right corner. Mailing address on the other side of the fold. Reverse is blank. Victor Hugo needs no introduction. The author of ‘Les Miserables’ and ‘The Hunchback of Notre-Dame’ is a literary giant.
