Fleming UC Imprints #1488, TPL 7614 Three (3) distinct propositions were submitted as the basis on which the Re-union might be established: 1) equal representation of each Province in the United Legislature; the grant of sufficient Civil List; that the public debt of this Province be charged on the joint revenue of the United Province. 2) It is recommended that the use of the English language in all judicial and legislative records be introduced. 3) It is also suggested the paramount subject of emigration from the British Isles, which is considered the best calculated to render the United Province British in fact, as well as in name... Address passed by a majority of 11; Yeas, 28 to Nays, 17. Presented by Allan N. MacNab (1798-1862), Speaker in January 1840. Born in Newark, now Niagara-on-the-Lake, in 1838, MacNab was knighted for his zeal in suppressing the rebellion. He served in the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Canada leading the province from 1854 to 1856.
