First edition, folio (47.5 x 34 cm), dedication, mezzotint portrait of Sir William Sidney Smith, 19 hand-coloured lithographs, portrait in text, contemporary red half morocco over marbled boards, a little rubbed and worn, a very good copy. Includes views of Acre, Sidon, Tyre, Beirut, Jaffa, Mount Tabor, Tripoli, Caeserea, also fine genre scenes showing costumes etc. The quality of the plates in this edition is far superior to later issues. Spilsbury was the surgeon on board H.M.S. Tigre, commanded by Sydney Smith, the hero of Acre, to whom the work is dedicated. H.M.S.
