Withal, still a very good copy of an ephemeral directory. A fascinating Depression-era Japanese- American directory. The book is mostly comprised of an alphabetical listing of Japanese-American residents of California, with names printed in Japanese characters with corresponding addresses and phone numbers. The directory also includes listings for residents of Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Illinois, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Texas, Utah, Washington, Washington, D.C., and Wyoming, along with twelve Mexican states, Canada, Panama, five South American countries, and Cuba. The Index provides quick reference to the listings in each location. The main text is bookended by two distinct sections of additional information. The first contains business listings, featuring companies such as The Sumitomo Bank, Zellerbach Paper Company, Nippon Dry Goods Co., M. Hatae Company Importers and Exporters, Fred F. Morikawa General Insurance, Watanabe Grocery, Nichibei Securities Co., and more. The other section, coming after the main directory portion, is entitled "1934 Japanese American Directory of Young People [sic] Organization."
