Six volumes, 10 1/4 inches tall (quarto) 18th century full calf binding, spines with raised bands, gilt tooled compartments, gilt titles to red leather labels, edges dyed red, marbled endpapers, book label of Dr. Rene Billard, Dole, to each front paste-down, title pages with red and black printing, engraved medallions of Haller. Vol I, [4] 639, 2 plates; Vol. II, [2] 704, 4 plates; Vol. III, hand-penned bookplate Ex bibliotheca/ Guillaume D. med/ six volumes achetes/ 12 16 chez M. [illigible]/ l'an 1800 [2] 652, 6 plates; Vol. IV, [2] 814 15 plates; Vol. V, [2] 784; Vol VI, [2] 843, 3 plates (total 30 plates, many folding). Wear to corners and spine ends, joints cracked ends in some volumes, hinges strong and binding tight in all volumes, occasional light foxing to prliminary pages and endpapers, text and plates crisp, bright, and unmarked. A 7th volume, published in 1760, containing remedies and supplements, is lacking. TEXT IN LATIN. ALBRECHT VON HALLER (1708 - 1777) was a Swiss anatomist, physiologist, naturalist, encyclopedist, bibliographer and poet. A pupil of Herman Boerhaave, he is often referred to as the father of modern physiology.
