Philadelphia : Printed and sold by John M'Culloch, at No. 1, North Third-Street, [1792]. [32]pp. + [14]ll., interleaved blanks, many with manuscript. 4¼ x 2½ inches. Contemporary marbled wraps. Wraps with some wear and fading, mild general wear; overall, very good. Complete copy of a rare 18th century Philadelphia almanac. Contemporary manuscript annotations throughout -mentioning numerous prominent 18th-century Philadelphians- are further augmented with three small drawings. Manuscript entries relate to monies for French refugees, two formulas converting pence into cents and vice versa, one exceedingly brief ms. entry concerning cash/gold and the U.S. Bank, building and construction, record payments made or goods received, and a list of names, in three columns, many with addresses of prominent Philadelphians; Ross, Nixon, Burd, Shippen, Chew, Tilghman, Read, Morris, Carroll are but a few. Three manuscript illustrations at the end show specifications of a distillation or boiler apparatus, a detail of the same, and a sepia pencil drawing (very faint) of a stove or fireplace. Names of some of the merchants and tradesmen mentioned in transactions: "to W[illiam] Young, B[oo]kseller in full" ; "Wm. Long, for Sideboard" ; "[Check] to B[enjamin]. Tilghman pd out to Benj[amin] Chew" ; "Chs. Keir, Baker" ; etc. Other names seen are Leiper, Reinagle, Ross, Nixon, Penn, Powel, Trumbul, Morris, etc. Building or construction related entries include: "At Shippensburgh Mason lay the stones, fired themselves" and details of stair construction.
