W. Spotswood and J. Nancrede, Boston, 1797. Two volume set. Stated first American edition. Full calf with leather title labels. Splitting/fraying to crown of v. 1. Bookplates to both volumes. V. 1 front endpages have tears and minor losses, and the 2nd ffep has neatly written contemporary accounting figures, dated 1818. Complete with 17 fold out maps. Moderate foxing. The hinges and binding are sound. This gazetteer includes sailing directions to the newly-discovered Pacific islands, Australia, and New Zealand. The maps were engraved in America: four by William Rollinson of New York, 3 by Samuel HIll, and 2 by B. Callender of Boston (the engravers of the others are not identified. ) Scarce. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 436; 573 pages [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]
