Copper engraving on title with 34 large woodcuts; 43 vignettes; 1 floriated initial. Bound in 19th calf over marbled boards, plain compartment and raised bands, with black leather title label in gilt. Boards rubbed, with wear to the corners and spine; front and rear boards attached by the cords only, else overall a Very Good copy; internally just a bit of soiling in places but not bad. Apoclyptic prophecies involving the Popes. Illustrated throughout with woodcuts of Popes in various scenes, often mystical in nature, accompanying predictions or prophecies. Joachim, Florensis or Joachim of Fiore, also known as Joachim of Flora and in Italian Gioacchino da Fiore (c. 1135 -1202), influential Italian theologian, author, founder of the monastic order of San Giovanni in Fiore, and namesake of the Joachimites (as well as the inspiration of a number of other movements condemned as heretical by the church after his lifetime).
