A William Henry Harrison Secretarially Signed Deed From His Brief Tenure As President
WILLIAM HENRY HARRISON (1773-1841). Harrison was the Ninth President and the hero of Tippecanoe in the War of 1812. He was Governor of the Indiana Territory, a Congressman, and Senator before his election as President in 1840. He died just thirty-one days later, allowing John Tyler to become the first Vice President to become President. Document. 1pg. 16" x 10". March 25, 1841. Washington. A partly printed document signed "W.H. Harrison" by his secretary, N. P. Cousin, Jr. As the Harrison Administration was a mere one month in length, anything from his Presidency is rare. This is a land grant to Harvey Durkee of Racine County, Wisconsin Territory, of land in that Territory. It was signed just a week before Harrison's death. The vellum document has folds and a dark secretarial signature.
