Dickens, Charles (1812-1870)
The Mystery of Edwin Drood [in six parts, as issued]
Chapman & Hall, London, 1870. A very clean and bright set of the serialized first appearance of Dickens's last novel. The story was planned for twelve parts but only these six parts were published when his death left the story half-told and the mystery unsolved. The advertisement on cork is present at rear of Part II and the "Eighteenpence" slip is pasted over the printed price on Part VI. Fine. Each of the six parts bound in pale blue wrappers printed in black. Part I has some chipping to cover at bottom 1.5" of spine, Part VI has a .5" diagonal chip to top fore corner of rear cover, but otherwise these six individual booklets are strikingly fine. Housed in a custom clamshell box. [Attributes: First Edition; Soft Cover]
