London: J. Harris (Successor to E. Newbery). 1806-1807. Six titles bound as one. 12mo. Contemporary brown calf with gilt ruling and red morocco title label to the spine. Woodcut frontispiece to the first title. Profusely illustrated throughout with dozens of wonderful naive woodcuts (four towards the beginning crudely coloured). A very good copy, the binding firm with minor cracking to the rear inner hinge, rubbing to the boards and wear to extremities. The contents lacking two leaves of the third title and three leaves of the final title, with some pages trimmed (occasionally affecting the text), and the occasional minor mark, are otherwise in good order and clean throughout. A superb collection of early nineteenth-century juvenile chapbooks issued by the well-known John Harris, one of the pre-eminent publishers of children's literature of the Regency era. Beautifully illustrated and including a number of scarcer titles. Provenance: from the library of Martin Stone. Further details and images for any of the items listed are available on request.
