Full calf, boards stamped borders ruled in blind surrounded by gilt-ruled border. Stone-marbled endpapers AND edges of green, orange and yellow. Raised bands, with contrasting gilt-ruled spine labels. Rubbing and cracking to spine leather. Frontis engraving of Hernan Cortes by Geo. Vertue. 2 engraved maps (one folding), 6 engraved plates (5 folding, one double-page). Divided into five books. Historiated initials, headpieces and tailpieces. Art and engravings by Simon Schynvoet and J. Clark. Red stain and 3-inch closed tear to pull-out in Book III, between pp. 68-69.
