WELLS, H.G. [Herbert George] (1866-1946)
The Invisible Man. A Grotesque Romance
London: C. Arthur Pearson Limited, 1897. [Speculative fiction] FIRST EDITION, first Issue. Octavo (20 x 14cm), pp.[viii]; 246; [2] advertisements. With page 1 incorrectly numbered as 2. Publisher's pictorial red cloth titled in gilt to spine and upper with vignette in black to upper. Contents toned as usual, a few small closed tears to the edges of a couple of pages. Some remains of a label to pastedown. Textblock shaken with some splitting to hinges. Cloth rubbed to extremities, darkened to spine, some marks and soiling. Very good. A sound and affordable copy of Wells' classic sci-fi novella; a commentary on the misuse of science for selfish ends - the famous story of a scientist who tampers with nature in his pursuit of superhuman powers.
