Goldsmith, Oliver) [Cradock, Joseph]
Zobeide.; A Tragedy. As it is Acted at the Theatre-Royal in Covent-Garden
T. Cadell, London, 1771. 8vo, [2], i-iii, 80pp [4]; pages window-mounted in quarto leaves for J.P. Kemble and bound in full tan polished calf gilt by Riviere. A leading actor of his day -- and brother to the greatest actress, Sarah Siddons -- Kemble was also a major collector. This copy of Cradock's eastward-looking fantasy based upon Voltaire's "Les Scythes," (with a prologue by Oliver Goldsmith), typifies his collection, with its perfect collated copies put into uniform Riviere bindings. The bookplate is that of Morris and Olga Woolf. Later bookplate; with Kemble's inscription in margin at title page "Collated & Perfect, JPK 1798"; covers a bit spotted, rubbed at hinges; very nice indeed. [Attributes: First Edition]
Bookseller: Locus Solus Rare Books (ABAA, ILAB) [Los Angeles, CA, U.S.A.]
