Thomson, James
Poetical Works, 2 volumes
Glasgow: Foulis, 1784. First printing. Very Good. 2 volumes, folio (15 inches tall; 39 cm), gold paper spines over buff light blue laid paper covered boards, very good, light rubbing to spines, some repaired lengthwise splits, front joints of both volumes neatly strenghtened, and front inner hinges as well. Contents VG, flyleaf of second volume edge-worn with small patch to lower outer corner and light repairs along fore-edge. 256 and 326 pp, list of subscribers at the end of the first volume, signature of James Buchanan -- not the president -- on title pages of each volume (not sure who this is, but there is a George Buchanan among the subscribers, and a James Buchanan is listed on the subscriber pages of the Kilmarnock edition of Burns, so we think Mr. Buchanan was a Scotsman who liked his country's poetry). Wide margins, beautiful typography, the best and rarest of the Foulis Press books.
