Disdier, Francois-Michel (1708-81)
EXPOSITION EXACTE OU TABLEAUX ANATOMIQUES EN TAILLES-DOUCES DES DIFFERENTES PARTIES DU CORPS HUMAIN.
Etienne Charpentier, Paris, 1758. An exquisite anatomy for physicians and artists, prepared by the noted professor of surgery and drawing master at the Academy of Painting in Paris. Disdier also directed the anatomy course at the Royal Academy of Painting and Sculpture, which may account for his connection with Boucher, whose delicate and idealized title page engraving depicts an anatomy lesson. Most of the remaining plates were executed by Crepy and Charpentier in the style of Vesalius and Eustachius. Although this work was meant for the medical profession, it is clear that the artist might benefit from it as well. 60 ff. Elaborate engraved title page by Francois Boucher, each page a separate copper-engraved plate, including the engraved "Advertissement" and 29 anatomical plates and text by various artists. Folio. In a later one-quarter vellum over decorative brown paper binding, with new preliminary and concluding leaves. Some occasional mild soiling, mostly to the extremities. [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]
