London: Macmillan and Co, 1876. 83 pp. Touch of wear to extremities else very good condition. Some staining to several pages from what looks like pressed flowers or plants. A bright fresh copy. Housed in a red full calf leather case by H. Zucker, Phila. with title and authors name stamped in gold on spine. With "baker" not "butcher" on p.83. First edition in variant presentation binding of scarlet cloth (intended to match Alice in Wonderland) gilt illustration stamped on boards, all edges gilt. Though typically found in buff cloth with black stamping, Lewis Carroll wrote to his publisher ordering copies in various colors stamped in gilt, intended for his friends as presentation copies, requesting such as "100 bound in red and gold, 20 in dark blue and gold, 20 in white vellum and gold."
