Volume III illustrated with a frontispiece, and one plate. Volume IV illustrated with a frontispiece. Volume V illustrated with two plates. Volume VI illustrated with two plates. Volume VII illustrated with two plates. Volume VIII illustrated with two plates. Volume IX illustrated with two plates. Volume X illustrated with two plates. Volume XI illustrated with two plates. Volume XII illustrated with two plates. Volume IV appears to be lacking the first 6 pages of text, beginning at page 9. Volume X lacks a title page. Archibald Alison's idea for this history was born when he was travelling France in 1814. He discusses prominent and path-changing events that happened in Europe in the eighteenth and nineteenth century, and the lead up to each event. These include the Napoleonic Wars and the Reign of Terror, events which impacted the entirety of Europe. The work is regarded as the first scholarly English study on the French Revolution. It contains a wealth of information on the tumultuous period in history, and is written in a lively and wordy style.
