Complete title of the book is: An Essay on the Principle of Population; or, A View of its Past and Present Effects on Human Happiness; With an Inquiry into our Prospects respecting the future removal or mitigation of the evils which it occasions. Five raised bands and six compartments, gilt title on second to top compartment, gilt ornate tooling on all other compartments, gilt ruled, marbled boards, marbled endpapers and pastedowns, marbled text block edges with some fading to top text block edge, some loss to spine tips/tops and board corners, some sunning to front board, discoloration to marbled boards along leather corners and spine, boards were detached at some point but have been professionally rehinged and with Japanese tissue keeping original endpapers and pastedowns, previous owner bookplate front pastedown and previous owner name and year in ink on title page else unmarked, some scattered foxing and sunning throughout, moderate rub marks with few small abrasions along board edges, frayed board corners, leather is brittle and cracked, text block binding sturdy, abrasion to top corner rear board marbled binding.
