Édition originale de l'un des premiers recueils de textes alchimiques. Il contient le "pretiosa margarita novella" de Petrus Bonus (1330) déjà publié par Alde en 1546, dans un recueil portant un titre similaire au notre mais dont le contenu est très différent. On trouve aussi des textes d'Arnaud de Villeneuve, de Lulle, Rhasès, Albert le Grand et Michel Scot. Le texte a été divisé en cinq chapitres correspondant à des étapes de procédés alchimiques.
