Alnwick; Henry Hunter Blair, 1866., 1866. Hardcover. Vol I 1866, Vol II 1868-9. FIRST EDITION. Octavo. Volume I : vi, [4], 480 pp; Volume II : vi, 481 pp, [1], xxiv. Woodcuts in text plus 21 plates and portrait of the Author (complete). Book Condition: Very Good. Two volume set in half calf with marbled paper boards. Five raised bands, black labels with gilt titles to spines, gilt foliate decoration to compartments and blind-tooled decoration to boards; endpapers and edges marbled. Plate 5 to Volume I detached with associated soiling & creasing to edge. Scuffed area to front pastedowns (where bookplate has been removed? ) and name of former owner John Storey inscribed to ffep of each. Sporadic foxing mainly to early and late leaves. Edges rubbed with light wear to corners and foredge; light scuffing to boards. Tate was a Freeman of Alnwick and the publication of this history of his home town was marked by a special banquet at the town hall. Scarce.
