Original, embossed cardboard covers, string-tied. Wear and rubbing to boards; front board and initial two leaves detaches. Ink captions on album leaves; photos in corner mounts; several photos removed and laid in. Photographs generally clear, with minimal wear. A large photograph album that contains almost 420 original photographs that document military service and daily life of a Japanese-American family in the years after World War II. The first several images are from the May 1945 marriage of the central couple, Frank and Chiye (whose last name is not present in any of the captions). The following approximately seventy-fine photographs document Frank's period of military service in Sapporo, on the northern Japanese island of Hokkaido, during late 1945 and 1946, as a member of the Counterintelligence Corps. The CIC operations in post-war Japan included policing the black market; identifying subversives, revanchists, and saboteurs; and running a network of informants, among other duties. The photos show some of Frank's activities, his fellow soldiers (many identified in captions), camp locations, and a number of his Japanese acquaintances. The remainder of the album depicts the experiences of Frank, Chiye, and their family in the United States from late 1946 to 1961.
